LANGA TOWNSHIP CYCLE
Walk, talk, taste, smell and experience the streets of Langa with a guided Langa Township Cycle who actually lives in Langa. This tour tries to give tourists a “Slice of Life” experience.
Langa is a township and suburb of Cape Town, South Africa. Langa is one of the many areas in South Africa that were designated for Black Africans before the apartheid era. It is the oldest of such suburbs in Cape Town and was the location of much resistance to apartheid. Langa is also where several people were killed on 21 March 1960 same day as the Sharpeville massacre, during the anti-pass campaign.
Embark on our 2-hour cycle tour in the historic township of Langa – only 15 minutes from Cape Town. Tours depart from Gugu S’Thebe in Langa. With our Langa Township Cycles we are able to cover more of the community than on our Langa walking tours. Amongst interacting with the locals, tasting local delicacies and jamming to the rhythm of the music on the streets , you’ll be able to visit upper, middle and lower income stream homes, hostels, shebeens and churches. This is a fantastic opportunity to break the bias of what it means to live in the township, and truly come to realize the vibrance, energy and sense of community the locals have living in Langa. The name ‘Langa’ means ‘Sun’, and while immersed in the culture, you will come to understand why.
