Our Milestones Over the Years
Discover the pivotal moments and significant milestones that have contributed to Adventure Works’ evolution into the premier event provider it is recognized as today, highlighting our journey of innovation, dedication, and passion for extraordinary experiences.
2000
It all started in February, right on the water’s edge at the V&A Waterfront. Back then, we were a small outfit with a big love for adventure. Just 18 months later, we made the move to our own space in Hout Bay – we needed room to grow (and a proper spot to stash kayaks and gear). One of our first big experiences? Paddling with penguins. It was fresh, fun, and totally Cape Town.
2002
By then we were working closely with the Cape Metropolitan Tourism team (which later became CTICC and Wesgro) to showcase Cape Town to the world. Think full-scale media trips, jaw-dropping itineraries, and wild adventure ideas to help put our Mother City on the global map. We weren’t just creating experiences – we were showing people what was possible in Cape Town.
2002-2005
We took the untamed spirit of local Harley-Davidson clubs and turned it into something unique – chauffeur-driven Harley tours that became a massive hit. Around the same time, we teamed up with Jeep drivers, building group experiences that offered rugged, off-the-beaten-path journeys with a touch of wild flair.
2008
A new chapter began as Barry and Barbara took full ownership of Adventure Works. With them at the helm, the focus sharpened: more creativity, more heart, and a commitment to delivering exceptional experiences.
2009
One of our most legendary events to date: 1,500 people over three unforgettable days. It was a full-blown Amazing Race around the Cape Peninsula – featuring Jeeps, Harleys, sidecars, vintage cars, kayaking, surfing, township barbers, beach football, penguin paddles… and that’s just naming a few. Every touchpoint was tailor-made. It captured everything Adventure Works stood for: personal, powerful, and playful.
2010
2012
The pre-Instagram era, and some of our wildest team-building trips ever. Multi-day events with river rafting, abseiling in the Cederberg, powerboating, and let’s just say… unlimited fun. We pushed boundaries (and probably some limits), but it was all part of the adventure.
2015
Bigger groups became the new normal. We became the go-to team for DMCs and corporates looking to host events for 600 to 1,500 people. From interactive Amazing Races to complex logistics across multiple venues, we knew how to make big events feel effortless. Making it easy for clients became part of our DNA.
2017
In the thick of Cape Town’s water crisis, we adapted fast. With interactive walking tours, we gave guests a real feel for the city – letting them taste, see, and connect with Cape Town in a conscious, authentic way.
2020
Just before the world changed, we were on Signal Hill with nearly 300 Nike guests doing sunrise yoga. Then lockdown hit. But we didn’t stop – we pivoted into virtual team-building, helped people connect from home, and even handled wedding proposals via Zoom. Whatever it took to keep the adventure alive.
2023
We started stepping into brand activations in a big way – using our adventure roots to bring products and stories to life. From car manufacturers to energy drinks and global sportswear brands, we helped turn brand values into unforgettable, hands-on experiences.
2025
Now, here we are in 2025, celebrating 25 years of wild rides, great clients, and unforgettable moments. Whether it’s an easy half-day team outing or a fully custom brand experience for a massive group of people, our mission’s stayed the same:
